Cookie Policy
A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. This page lists the ones diversify.no uses, what each is for, and how long it lasts. Anything beyond the strictly necessary stays off until you say yes.
The three categories
The consent banner groups cookies exactly the way this page does, so what you switch on there maps one-to-one to what you read here.
- Necessary — always on. Needed for the site to work — remembering your consent choice, the language you are reading in, your light or dark preference, the notices you have dismissed, and keeping forms safe from abuse. These are not used for tracking.
- Analytics — off by default. Aggregate statistics about which pages are read and how people arrive. Helps us decide what to write more of. Nothing loads until you accept.
- Marketing — off by default. Used to measure whether our campaigns and event promotion actually reach people. Nothing loads until you accept.
Cookies and local storage we use
We set very little: one cookie, and three items in your browser's local storage, which does the same job as a cookie but is never sent to our server.
The cookie is NEXT_LOCALE — necessary, until you close your browser. It records which language you are reading the site in, and it is only set when that differs from the language your browser asks for: a Norwegian-speaking browser reading our English pages gets it, an English-speaking one reading the same pages does not. It has no expiry date, so it goes when you close the browser.
In your browser's local storage:
- div-consent — necessary, up to 12 months. The choice you made in the consent banner, so you are not asked again on every page. Some browsers clear it sooner; see below.
- div-theme — necessary, until you clear it. Whether you chose the light or the dark appearance. This one has no expiry; it stays until you clear your browser's storage.
- diversify:announcement-dismissed — necessary, until you clear it. Which site-wide notice you have already dismissed, so it does not come back.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics 4 sets two real cookies:
- _ga — analytics, 24 months. Tells one visitor from another, so page views are not counted twice.
- ga… — analytics, 24 months. Session state for our particular measurement property; the full name ends with that property's own id.
Neither is set unless you accept analytics, and both are expired if you later switch analytics back off.
Marketing sets nothing at all today. The banner offers the category because we may use it for campaign measurement later; until we do, switching it on has no effect and nothing is loaded.
On pages with a form or a comment box we load Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person rather than a script. It runs in Cloudflare's own context, so any storage it needs belongs to Cloudflare rather than to us, and we set nothing of our own for it. It is not on pages without a form.
What happens if you reject
Nothing on the site stops working. Every page, form, event registration and article is fully available with analytics and marketing switched off. Rejecting is a real option, not a degraded one.
We also do not re-ask on every visit. We keep your choice for up to twelve months, and you can change it at any point from the link in the footer. Some browsers clear stored choices sooner than that — Safari, and every browser on iPhone and iPad, clear them after about a week without a visit — so you may be asked again before the twelve months are up. That is the browser protecting you, not us re-asking.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie Settings link in the footer of any page, or the button below, to reopen the banner and adjust each category. Turning a category off stops new data being collected; it does not delete what was already gathered, which you can request separately.
You can also clear cookies in your browser settings, and set your browser to refuse them entirely. If you do that, the site will simply ask for your consent again on your next visit.
Analytics we run without cookies
Some measurement does not need cookies at all. We use Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless, aggregate page-view counter that records no identifiers and no cross-site data. Because it cannot identify you, it falls outside consent requirements and runs regardless of your choice.
Change your cookie choices
Reopen the banner and adjust each category. Your choice takes effect immediately, and we keep it for up to twelve months — sooner on browsers that clear stored choices themselves.
